How to Maintain Healthy Teeth and Gums For Your Child
It is important not only for the adults but also for the kids to keep their teeth and gums healthy. Brushing twice a day, flossing regularly, and going to dental checkups are some of the essentials in maintaining good oral hygiene. But if good oral hygiene is not practiced by kids, it leads to many complications later in their lives.

Here are some of the things you can do to help your kids maintain healthy teeth and gums:

Get Your Kids to Drink More Water

Since water is very important, get them to drink enough water. Drinking adequate water helps to clean freshly formed bacteria. It helps to defend against tooth decay by producing enough saliva. On the other hand, dehydration negatively affects your child's oral health.
Water lowers the pH level of the mouth in the kids after eating acidic foods and beverages. Try adding their favorite fruits with water if you face trouble getting your child to drink plain water.

Encourage Your Kids to Eat Tooth-Friendly Foods

Offer your child raw, crunchy fruits and vegetables. Cheese, almonds, and yogurt could be served as their snacks.  Foods rich in omega 3s provide healthy fats that are essential for healthy teeth and gums. Olive oil, avocado, fatty fish, etc can be given to produce healthy fats.
On the other hand, it is not recommended to give sugary drinks to a child under the age of one. After the age of one, the child should be provided with water between meals. Gummy snacks and foods that stick and stay on the teeth should also be avoided.

Teach Proper Brushing and Flossing

Children should be given soft and small toothbrushes. Bristles of the toothbrush should be held at an angle along the line of teeth and against the gum line. All sides of the teeth should be brushed gently in a circular motion.

Make sure that they are not using too much pressure as it can cause the gum to bleed and they even start to recede. It is also important to teach your child about the benefit of flossing. Make flossing a fun game for the kids so that they are more likely to do it.
